Water is life. Think of what your life would look like if you didn’t have access to clean drinking water. Thirsty? Want to wash your produce? Need to brush your teeth? For many of us, it’s just a matter of turning on the faucet. But for much of the world, access to safe drinking water doesn’t exist. 1/3 of all schools in the world lack access to safe water and sanitation. Every 90 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease. 842,000 people die every year from diseases caused by unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and lack of hygiene. What’s more, the global water crisis affects women and girls disproportionately more than men and boys .Girls under the age of 15 are twice as likely as boys to be the family member fetching water. A trip to Crested Butte is an annual pilgrimage for us. Whether in the Spring to enjoy the “wildflower capital of Colorado,” in the Summer to escape the heat of the Front Range, or in the Fall to gaze upon thousands of yellow aspen. A trip to Crested Butte means epic mountain biking, scenic and free camping, mountain town vibes, and generally our perfect definition of a weekend adventure in Colorado. This year, we spent many weekends in the mountains, but never made it to Crested Butte. We are super bummed!
